'The Beauty in Our Backyard' Photographs by Robin Frey

As we wrap up our first year here at VFA We wanted to take the time thank everyone who has supported us! We have enjoyed all the great artwork that has graced our walls, we look forward to 2012 and the great artists we have lined up.

For our last show of 2011, VANOVER FINE ARTS is proud to curate
Robin Frey's first solo exhibition:

'The Beauty In Our Backyard'. Photographs by Robin Frey.
Opening night is Sat Dec. 10th 6-10pm, Open to the public.

With all the great artists and artwork that have gone through our gallery, we rarely inject our personal or artistic opinions about upcoming artist and their artwork. But we feel very strongly about the talent of this young photographer and would like to express to you how her photography have touched us at VFA.

The first time we saw Robin's photographs we were blown away! When looking at Robin's photographs they take you some place else, back to a childhood memory or to another place...
She has a way of capturing the moment in it's essence, teleporting you to that time & place depicted in her photograph. We feel if you could travel back in time at that moment, it would be missing because it's very essence had been captured in Robin's photographs.

We believe Robin Frey is one of the most talented photographers out of the gate, because she
already has the inherit eye of a seasoned photographer. Come see her talent for yourself!

With such talent this may be the only time to get these original works
at a great price!

They would make a very beautiful Christmas gift!

Opening Reception: Saturday, DECEMBER 10th - 6-10pm - Open to the Public
(Artist will be present at Opening)

Robin is an entirely self taught photographer who proudly makes The Enchanted Mountains her home. An avid outdoors person, Robin is always out looking for her next ‘homemade’ adventure. After a recent lifetime -awaited trip out West, Robin realized that the most amazing people and scenery are right here- in Western New York. With a new found love for her home, Robin’s passion for capturing the beauty in our backyard spurred on to a new level. “What I really hope to convey with my photography is a love and discovery of the beauty that we already have-that we oftentimes get too busy to thoroughly enjoy”.

NOVEMBER 12th: New Works by Larry Kinney and William Herod

Opening Reception: Saturday, November 12th 6-10pm
Exhibition: November 12th - December 3rd, 2011

'Laughing Ele' 17" x 21" x 11" Slowly turned pigments/resin over carved mixed medium

Larry Kinney Bio:

Lawrence Kinney's career in sculpture extends over twenty years and encompasses the completion of degrees through Munson Williams Proctor Institute, Utica, NY, and the State University of New York at Buffalo. Exhibitions in Buffalo, NY, Erie, PA, and New York City have included several awards for sculpture. As an undergraduate, Kinney was awarded a fellowship to study the art and architecture of Spain. As guest lecturer at the State University of New York at Buffalo, Mr. Kinney taught undergraduate courses in sculpture and three-dimensional design. As co-owner and curator of the Low Profile Gallery of Fine Arts in Utica, New York, opportunities to organize, finance and present exhibits were realized. Mr. Kinney’s sculptures have appeared in galleries, architectural facades, colleges, theme parks, restaurants, and private collections across the United States and in Puerto Rico.

Artist Statement:
My current body of work explores the integration of form, color and texture, while maintaining enough subtlety to imply the possibility of an additional form or function. Each piece consists of resins and pigments over carved mixed media. Color is layered between completely clear
overcoats that emphasize the sculpture's physicality and character. Volume, color and shape are meant to interact naturally as the sculpture is turned on a slow RPM motor. The effect of each piece depends on the materials, ambient conditions, and the character of the under-sculpture.

William Herod Bio:

Born in the mid-20th century, William Herod has spent most of his life involved in one creative endeavor after another.

As a designer, he has created and marketed high end contemporary furnishings and accessories in metal as well as art furniture and sculptural lighting.
His metal work can be seen throughout Buffalo and Western New York, and has sold to galleries and furniture shops from L.A. to Tokyo…
Armed with an eye for detail, William Herod's photographic pursuits deal with that which is right in front of us. His "Looking Up" series showcases majestic sky-scapes framed by decaying industrial ruins, while his "Up Close and Personal" works take a close-up look at the colors, shapes, and textures, of the world around us.
With his introduction to the digital medium a new passion was born, and over the past several years the skills acquired throughout his lifetime in the physical world have been transmuted for use in the digital realm. And in embracing photo manipulation, digital painting and 3-D rendering, he has discovered an endless potential for illustration and story telling, the result of which is his latest creation,
‘Task Zeno: Confessions of a Mechanical Man’, an illustrated science fiction novel.
Fine art pursuits include his 'atmospheric' paintings in both oils and acrylics, as well as wall sculpture of wood, metal, and found materials which reflect his love for "The Machine Age".
His painting "Ascension", was recently picked to be exhibited at "World Art in Venice" in Venice, Italy. But was held up at customs in Milan.

On learning this, the shows curator, Fausto Brozzi, inspired William to create a totally new painting the day before the show and complete it as a performance piece the next night at the opening. The painting,"La Vita Nuova" (The New Life), is currently on display at Ca' Zanardi.

'Cape Cod Beach Path' - Acrylic - 11"x 14"

Opening Reception: Friday - Sept. 2, 2011 6-10pm
'The Collective Works of Heather Lynn Harris'
Artist will be present at Opening Reception

Heather began her love for art at age five when her mother encouraged her creativity by sending her to art classes at the Memorial Art Gallery in her hometown of Rochester, NY. She continued to pursue art through private instruction in middle school and art classes in high school. She knew she wanted to have a career in art, but like many artists, fear of starvation made her pursue a degree in a field that could offer her greater financial stability. After gaining a degree in Marketing and a Masters in Business Administration she went on to pursue a rewarding career in marketing while continuing to create art in her spare time. She knew art would always play an important role in her life and continued to nurture it until the time was right.

After the birth of her son,
followed a few years later by the birth of boy-girl twins, a swell of artistic energy caused Heather to decide to return to her first love, art. She dedicated herself full time to the study and creation of art. She spent the last ten years experimenting with charcoal, acrylics, oils, pastels, and pen and ink, gaining an appreciation for each medium. She improved herself through practice, private instruction, workshops, and recently she embarked on formalizing her skill as an artist through a Masters of Fine Arts degree at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA. She paints landscape, still life, figure and portrait, but her favorite subject is the human form and she enjoys creating art that tells a story.

As a Co-Founder of Redfish Art Studios, she orchestrated and
curated many art shows, as well as led art excursions to the South of France where artists have been inspired and renewed in their passion for creating art.

Over the past five years Heath
er has experienced tremendous growth as an artist and has been thrilled to receive two second place awards for her oil paintings in juried shows. Now in her own studio space, Heather is focusing on figurative work, illustration and private instruction. Her work can be found in private collections in Western New York.
